Core Indicators
| Indicator | Numerator | Denominator | Use |
|---|
| Recovery rate | Children discharged as recovered | Program exits with known outcomes | Tracks treatment success. |
| Default rate | Children defaulting from treatment | Program exits with known outcomes | Identifies follow-up and access challenges. |
| Vitamin A coverage | Children receiving vitamin A | Eligible children | Measures supplementation reach. |
| Exclusive breastfeeding | Infants under six months exclusively breastfed | Surveyed infants under six months | Tracks recommended infant feeding practice. |
Interpretation Notes
Nutrition program indicators depend heavily on admission criteria, discharge definitions, follow-up systems, and whether outcomes are known. Always separate recovered, defaulted, died, transferred, and unknown outcomes.
Data Quality Checks
Verify anthropometry: Measurement error can change admission and discharge status.
Review unknown outcomes: High unknown outcomes weaken interpretation of recovery and default rates.
Check age eligibility: Supplementation and feeding indicators require accurate age classification.
